SRINAGAR: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Tuesday detained five suspects for their alleged involvement in smuggling SIM cards to militants lodged in various jails.
In a statement a police spokesperson said, “On 04.02.2025, in connection with the investigation of FIR No. 06/2023 under sections 153-A, 505, 121, and 120-B IPC read with sections 13 and 39 of the UA(P) Act, five individuals were detained for questioning regarding a criminal conspiracy with anti-national elements. The conspiracy involved procuring, transporting, and smuggling SIM cards inside Central Jail for use by inmates, including those involved in terrorism and narco-terrorism.”
The statement further reads that previous searches conducted inside the Central Jail had revealed that these suspects, in collusion with certain inmates, had facilitated the procurement and transport of SIM cards inside the jail for use in terror-related activities. “Authorities are also investigating the role of PoS vendors and telecom service providers (TSPs) who issued these SIM cards, with further arrests expected.”
The detained suspects are residents of Dawoodpora (Anantnag), Qamarwari (Srinagar), Nathpora (Bandipora), Kaloosa (Bandipora), and Kursu Padshahibagh (Srinagar), the statement added. (KNO)
