Expressing Concern over the crime against women, Civil Society in Kashmir has stressed for the necessity of spreading moral education. They said that that for a strong society empowerment of women has to be ensured.

“When a woman is assaulted, it should not be taken as an attack on an individual, but on a society”, noted civil society activist and lawmaker, Justice (Rtd) Bashir Ahmad Kirmani said during his speech in a seminar on ‘Crimes against Women and its remedies’ organized by Shamah Foundation in collaboration with women’s studies of women’s college in College of Education.

Noted journalist GN Shaida in his speech said that the media has to be cautious while reporting such events as the wide coverage of the events could have negative impacts also.

“While covering such kind of events, media must exhibit maturity, because it has a far reaching impact on the modern day society”, Shaida said in his speech. He added that the atmosphere at homes play an important role in shaping the morality of an individual, therefore it was necessary for parents to pay special attention towards the moral development of their wards at homes.

According to a local news agency KNS, the seminar was also attended by Former head of the Islamic studies department in Kashmir University Dr Hameed Naseem Rafiabadi, Senior Journalist GN Shaida, Social activist Nighat Pandith, HOD Anchology in SKIMS, Dr Aijaz, and Dr Roheela Wani and others.

In the seminar, Dr Roheela Wani urged women to get prepared for self defense and said that delay in marriages also was a reason for such attacks
