SRINAGAR: One of the two civilians who were injured in firing in the ongoing Pampore encounter has died in the hospital. He had received a bullet in his head, reports from Pampore said.

The slain young man, a civilian, has been identified as Abid Ahmad Mir, 22. The other civilian identified as Kifayat is reported to be stable. He had received a bullet in the thigh and is admitted to the Bone and Joints Hospital.

With the civilian killing, the number of people killed in the encounter, so far, has reached two including an unidentified militant.

The encounter started last evening in Lalpora area of Pampore where a mixed column of the army, police and the CRPF cordoned off an area after receiving specific information about the presence of militants. In the initial round, while the cordon was being enforced, two persons were injured. They were immediately rushed to the local hospital wherefrom they were shifted to Srinagar. It was in SMHS that one of them has died during wee hours.

Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital Dr Nazir Choudhry told that the civilian succumbed today morning at around 6:30 am. He was on a ventilator for most of the night but could not survive. Reports from the village said that he was supplying mil to the locality and was busy with some customers when he was caught in the cordon and was hit by the bullet.
