Clashes erupted in main town Kupwara near Jamia Masjid after civilian protesters tried to take out a protest march against the killing of a young student in Shoipan on Tuesday.
Reports said that after congregational Friday prayers people tried to take out a protest march, however, forces deployed in strength stopped them, triggering clashes.
Locals said people raised pro-freedom and anti India slogans.
Reports also said that one SPO was injured in the clashes.
