SRINAGAR: The CJP on Saturday withdrew its nationwide agitation after the Centre accepted several of its key demands, including a commitment not to take action against protesters and to withdraw any FIRs already registered in connection with the protests.
The decision followed the third round of talks between Union Ministers J P Nadda and Dr Jitendra Singh and a CJP delegation, during which the two sides discussed the organisation’s demands for examination reforms and measures to prevent paper leaks.
Addressing a joint press conference with the CJP delegation, Nadda said the government had agreed that no action would be taken against protesters and no fresh FIRs would be registered. He added that any FIRs already filed would be withdrawn and copies of the FIRs would also be provided.
On the demand for compensation to the families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the NEET-UG paper leak, Nadda said the government was sympathetic and would ensure the maximum permissible compensation under the applicable rules and regulations.
Regarding the CJP’s five-point charter on examination reforms, the Union Minister said the government would examine the proposals in detail and take appropriate decisions after further deliberations with the organisation.
Announcing the withdrawal of the agitation, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said the decision had been taken in good faith, expressing confidence that the agreed commitments would be implemented within the stipulated timeframe.
CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka appealed to protesters across the country to immediately end their demonstrations and return home peacefully.
