Clashes between the youth and mixed contingents’ of government forces erupted in Makerpora and Eidgah localities of Arwani area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday morning, following a cordon and search operation in the area.
An eyewitness said that youth resorted to stone pelting as forces party entered the villages for searches. “As soon as the searches begun youth took to streets and pelted stones on forces, and they retaliated by firing tear gas smoke shells to disperse the protestors,” an eye witness told Kashmir Life.
“The search operation was launched following an input about the presence of militants in the area,” an official said. As per the last reports search operation amidst clashes was going on when this report was filed.
