Locals in Kakapora in south Kashmir’s district Pulwama Monday clashed with forces after they cordoned off the area, suspecting presence of militants.

Locals told KNS, forces cordoned off the area and started search operation during which the locals took to streets and pelted stones on them due to which cordon was called off by the forces.

They said that during the clashes between youth and forces one youth received injuries and was shifted to Kakapora sub-health centre for treatment where from he was shifted to Pulwama sub-district hospital.

According to police sources, forces cordoned off the area after receiving information about the presence of two militants hiding in the area. “After locals protests, the militants managed to escape from the area,” sources said.

However, SP Pulwama Rayees Ahmad said it was a routine search operation in the area. “It was a routine search in the area during which minor clashes erupted between youth and forces,” Rayees said.

He, however, said that no one received injuries during the clashes.
