Clashes erupted in South Kashmir’s Islamabad district after news about the killing of three militants in Hakoora village spread in the area.
Reports said that youth took to streets and staged massive protests in Reshi Bazar, Mattan Adda, Lal Chowk and Kokernag area of the district.
Police and paramilitary forces deployed in the area resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes in the Kokernag areas.
Earlier police launched a CASO in Hakoora after inputs about the presence of militants.
During the searches, an encounter ensued and three militants were killed in the gunfight. The slain militants include Eesa Fazili of Soura Srinagar, Owais Shafi of Vailoo Kokernag and a third unidentified militant.
