Violent anti-India clashes broke out in Kulgam Town of South Kashmir on Friday against the detention of three youths during a night raid.

According to GNS, police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) sleuths detained three youths during a night raid in Kulgam Town. The cops, according to reports, detained the youths for questioning regarding some militancy related case.

Reports said that Friday morning, locals took to streets and held pro-freedom and anti-India protests. The protesters were demanding release of youths detained by police. As a mark of protest, all the shops and business establishments were closed in the Town.

The protesters later clashed with police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Redwani during which government forces resorted to teargas shelling and pepper gas. The clashes continued for several hours. Due to clashes, the situation in the Town turned tense and authorities summoned additional contingents of government forces.
