Clashes erupted between protesters and police in Trehgam township of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday morning after police allegedly barged into Bunpora locality and damaged the property besides thrashing locals. A local source said.”On Friday morning cops barged into the residential house of village headman  Bashir Ahmad Malik in Bunpora thrashing  inmates including his sister-in-law.”

The sources reported that Malik’s Sister-in-law received a minor injury in her head from baton blows and she was given first aid and then shifted to hospital for treatment. “The policemen also smashes windows and panes of houses,” an eyewitness told Kashmir Life over the phone.

The police action triggered dread in the neighbourhood. Scores of locals poured on roads with aided with canes to hold a demonstration against police.

Furthermore, police used force to quell the protests. Sources said that police resorted to teargas shelling and youth threw stones on the forces personnel.

SHO Police Station Trehgam while talking to Kashmir Life said that police had gone to the locality to arrest youth. He denied the allegation of thrashing of inmates.
