Clashes erupted in North Kashmir’s Larsun area after the dead body of Kashmiri youth Abid Ahmad Ganaie was brought to his native village from Rajasthan on Tuesday. Agitated protestors amid pro freedom slogans demanded an impartial probe into the alleged killing of the youth. They even kidnapped a policeman and beat him to pulp.

Reports said that large gathering of people from Ganderbal District participated in the funeral procession of Abid. The protestors came on roads and amid anti-India slogans pelted stones on police and Para-military troopers who were deployed in strength in the area.

Police resorted to heavy tear gas shelling to disperse the protestors. The clashes between the protestors and people continued for hours.

Reports said that scores of agitated protestors at Dangarpora Barsuwa dragged a policeman and tore his uniform. The agitated protestors kidnapped the Head Constable Mohammad Sarwar and thrashed him. Protestors fled from the scene after leaving him half-dead. He was immediately rushed to nearby hospital.

Large contingent of police and Para-military troopers were deployed to diffuse the situation. Police imposed severe restrictions in the area to calm down the situation.
