Trouble erupted in North Kashmir’s restive town of Palhallan Thursday after forces arrested a local Sumo driver while continuing with the detention drive ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much anticipated visit to the state on Saturday.

Sources told Kashmir Life that Parvez Ahmad Gojri (22) from Gojri mohalla, Palhallan was arrested when forces swooped on a Sumo stand near highway.

As soon as the word about the arrest took rounds, youth came out in large numbers across parts of Palhallan town and hurled stones at the police and paramilitary forces. Sources said that the situation turned grim when forces allegedly fired aerial shots to disperse the protesters. Clashes were still going on when this report was filed.
