Police had to use tear smoke canisters to disperse the hundreds of protesters in Pulwama, on Thursday afternoon who where holding demonstrations against arresting of at least three youths by police.

Local sources said that police arrested at least three local youths in the market on Thursday afternoon.

People immediately came on roads and raised anti-India slogans resulting in the chaos and confusion in the area.

The protesters pelted stones on police and the police in retaliation used tear smoke canisters to disperse the protesters.

The shopkeepers, smelling the trouble brought their shutters down and everybody ran for shelter amidst severe clashes in the town.

The clashes were going on in the Muran Chowk, Pulwama when the reports last came in.

Police sources informed Kashmir Life that a crackdown has been started against the separatist leaders and activists keeping in view the anniversaries of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and Mohammad Afzal Guru.

Police already arrested the frontline leaders of Hurriyat (JK) Thursday afternoon and its activists have been called by their respective police stations to report.

Sources said police on Thursday raided the houses of different Hurriyat (G) leaders also including Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, close aide of Syed Ali Geelani, but he was not present at his residence.
