Fresh protests broke out in Banihal belt on Saturday, against the firing of BSF men in Gool with agitators blocking the Srinagar-Jammu highway.

Violent clashes have erupted in the south town of Shopian where police and protesters were busy in ding don battles when the reports last came in. Meanwhile curfew was on Saturday lifted in Ramban district.

“The situation is under control, peaceful and normal and there have been no untoward reports from anywhere today”, a police spokesman said here.

However, clashes erupted in Shopian after protesters pelted stones on police station. Police chased the protesters on Hospital road but they  when they resisted police used tear smoke shells creating panic in the area.

Locals allege that police went berserk and broke the window panes of residential houses of Mohammad Yousuf Sheikh and others.

There have been fresh protests in Banihal belt of Ramban district where some people assembled on the highway and sat on a dharna demanding the arrest of the people involved in Thursday’s firing incident in Gool.
