Clashes between civilian protesters and forces erupted in in Sopore town of the northern part of Kashmir and Nowhatta area of downtown Srinagar after congregational Friday prayers.
In Sopore, reports said that groups of youth tried to march from Jamia Masjid area amid pro-freedom slogans, but were stopped by the forces already deployed in strength in the area.
Forces used teargas shells to disperse the protesters who were pelting stones.

In Nowhatta, witnesses said that youths in scores raised pro-freedom slogans after congregational Friday prayers. They said that the youths tried to march raising slogans, however, forces deployed in strength intercepted the youth who retaliated by pelting stones.
Forces fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesting youths.
The clashes later spread to Rajouri Kadal, reports said.
Clashes were going on in the area when the last reports came in.
