Clashes amid protests erupted in Parray Mohalla Hajin in Bandipora district of northern part of Kashmir after gunshots were heard early Thursday morning.

Reports said that Special Operations Group (SOG) of JK Police and Army’s 13 RR unit cordoned off Parray Mohalla Hajin at around 7:40 am in the morning after specific inputs about the presence of two militants in a residential house.

They said that militants opened fire at forces after they zeroed in on the house. “As soon as they opened fire people came out of their homes and started protesting near the encounter site which helped the militants to escape from there.”

Witnesses said that protestors pelted stones at forces and raised pro-freedom and pro-Pakistan slogans. “Forces resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protestors.”

Meanwhile, reports quoting sources said that the operation has been called off.
