Pro-freedom clashes between youth and forces raged in Old City areas today after Friday prayers.
According to GNS, scores of assembled in Nowhatta area of Old City soon after offering Friday prayers and staged pro-freedom, pro-Islam and anti-India protests.
Eyewitnesses said that the youth clashed with police and paramilitary troopers. The forces resorted to intense teargas shelling and also chased youth away but they regrouped and attacked the forces with stones and bricks.
The area rattled with the bangs of teargas shells by forces while the clashes later spread to adjoining areas of Nowhatta that include Gojwara and Rajouri Kadal. Following the clashes, the shopkeepers downed their shutters in these areas.
