At least four persons were injured in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district when two factions of National Conference (NC) had an altercation with each other while as the situation went out of control when the supporters of one faction tried to hurl chairs and other items on the workers of opposite faction. Police resorted to lathicharge to bring the situation under control.NC workers clash with each other at Kulgam

According to reports, NC had called a convention at Town Hall Kulgam. Shortly before the arrival of Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo and Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, scores of workers from two factions of the party led by one Safdar Khan and the other by Imran Nabi Dar had a scuffle and exchanged blows freely.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that clashes started soon after the supporters of one of the factions claimed that their leader has been nominated as candidate for the 2014 Assembly Elections. The supporters of the other faction objected and soon there started a scuffle between the two groups.

Police charged with canes on the workers and dispersed them. Some of the injured have been identified as Abdul Rashid Raina, Tariq Ahmed and Noor Mohammad Khan.

Later on while talking to reporters, senior NC leader Nasir Aslam Wani said that it is the prerogative of High Command to select any able leader who could contest from the district Kulgam.
