SRINAGAR: A cloudburst in the Pahalgam area triggered a flash flood on Friday evening, damaging a temporary road at Awoora and forcing authorities to suspend traffic on the Bijbehara-Kuller-Pahalgam route.
Officials said the cloudburst struck Nallah Awoora, triggering a sudden surge in water that washed away the makeshift road constructed at Awoora.
The damage has disrupted vehicular movement along the Bijbehara-Kuller-Pahalgam stretch, with authorities advising commuters to avoid the route until restoration work is completed.
Police and SDRF teams have been deployed to assess the situation and ensure the safety of residents living in low-lying areas along the nallah.
Officials said no loss of life or damage to residential property had been reported so far.
Restoration work is expected to begin after the water level recedes and conditions become safe for personnel to operate.
This is reportedly the fourth cloudburst to hit the Pahalgam area this season, according to officials.(GNS)
