National Conference Sunday said Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s fear of losing the Islamabad by-election was shameful and tragic and said it had yet again highlighted PDP’s imminent political rout from the State, a statement issued by the party here read.

Addressing a day-long workers’ convention at Anziwala, Islamabad senior National Conference leaders lashed out at the PDP-BJP Government for foisting an unholy, opportunistic political alliance on the people of the State and said PDP’s shocking ideological u-turn had rendered the party unpalatable in every nook and corner of the State.

National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar said this was the first time in the history of the State and perhaps the entire country that a sitting Chief Minister was openly terrified of her own electoral defeat. “Mehbooba Mufti lied to the Election Commission and used her political influence in the ruling circles in New Delhi to get the Islamabad assembly seat by-election postponed. She knows her defeat from Islamabad is a foregone conclusion and hence she will go to any extent to run away from her electoral test till she possibly can. Nothing could be a clearer self-indictment and confession of failure than the Chief Minister herself admitting that the people of the State have rejected her and her party”, the NC General Secretary said

National Conference Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani said the PDP-BJP Government had abandoned all their promises and were solely obsessed with the spoils of political power. “Every single promise PDP made before elections and every single promise they made in the ‘Agenda of the Alliance’ has been broken within the very first year of this alliance. Recent incidents and reactions by the people of the entire State, including Islamabad have made it amply clear that PDP has been completely rejected at the grassroots level. The Chief Minister’s loss from Islamabad is inevitable and her fear is justified. National Conference will ensure our grassroots cadre is consolidated and united in serving the interests of this State and right now the most important goal is to protect our political rights and special status from PDP”, the NC Provincial President said while speaking at Islamabad.

Speaking on the occasion Iftikhar Misger, National Conference Constituency In-charge Islamabad, said the party was prepared for elections and the Chief Minister’s hesitation was unbecoming and shameful. “National Conference is united in its rank and file to take on the Chief Minister of the State in the Islamabad constituency and we challenge her to come to the electoral battleground rather than escaping the inevitable defeat that awaits her. Our workers are our biggest strength and we will continue to work day and night to strengthen our party”, Iftikhar Misher said.
