The J&K government has declared a seven-day mourning for Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed who passed away early today at AIIMS in New Delhi.

The state shall mourn the death of Mufti Sayeed for seven days and there will be a holiday today.

79-year-old Sayeed was flown to New Delhi on December 24 last year and admitted to AIIMS Critical Care ICU with complaints of fever and neck pain.

The Chief Minister breathed his last around 7:30 am today.

Sayeed, 79, is survived by his wife, three daughters including PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, and a son.

The mortal remains of the Chief Minister would be flown to Srinagar where the body will be kept for people to have the last glimpse of their leader. He is likely to be buried in his ancestral village in South Kashmir.
