SRINAGAR,: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday congratulated the University of Kashmir on securing the prestigious Category-I status from the University Grants Commission (UGC), describing it as a landmark achievement for higher education in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, Abdullah said the recognition reflects the University’s academic excellence, research strength and institutional growth. He congratulated the Vice Chancellor, faculty, students and the entire University fraternity, saying the achievement was the result of the sustained efforts of generations of educators, researchers and scholars.
The Chief Minister said the Category-I status would provide the University with greater academic and administrative autonomy, enabling it to introduce new academic programmes, strengthen collaborations and expand its research initiatives. He expressed confidence that the recognition would further enhance the University’s standing among leading institutions of higher learning in the country.
