CM Omar Abdullah Inaugurates 15 Water Supply Schemes in Anantnag

   

SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inaugurated and dedicated 15 water supply schemes across Anantnag district, constructed at a cost of Rs 63.97 crore.

The newly inaugurated schemes include Hardu Shichan, Dawoodpora Tilwanipora Kamad, Achabal Town, Andoo Pushroo, Deethu Khul, Shergund Aho Paisan, Ranipora Chohar, Gadval, Kasana Mohalla, Narsangri Kachwan, Laigripora, Sangam Sethar, Pushkreeri, Bakerwal Basti Chek I, and Shalgan GB. These projects are expected to provide safe and filtered drinking water to 24 villages and one town, strengthening the rural water supply infrastructure in the district.

Addressing a large gathering at Achabal, Abdullah said, “Today, we have handed over 15 water supply schemes to the people…clean, filtered water will be delivered to your homes. The schemes that are left will also be completed.” He assured that development would extend beyond water supply to sectors including education, health, roads, industry, tourism, social welfare, and tribal affairs.

The Chief Minister highlighted the administrative and financial challenges faced by his government, noting the burden of pending payments inherited from previous administrations. He emphasised that despite these difficulties, his government has not used them as an excuse and has worked to resolve pending liabilities quietly.

Touching on political aspirations, Abdullah reaffirmed his commitment to the restoration of statehood, promising to pursue rights through democratic and peaceful means without causing disruption to the lives of citizens. “We will fight…within the realm of the Constitution. For now, the work will continue,” he said.

The event was also addressed by Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Ahmed Rana, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, and MLAs Abdul Majeed Bhat, Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri, Altaf Ahmad Kaloo, Reyaz Ahmad Khan, and Zaffar Ali Khatana, who praised the water supply schemes as a landmark achievement for Anantnag.
