SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday unveiled the jersey of Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Club (SCC) and reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting sports and nurturing youth talent across Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at a function attended by Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani and club members, the Chief Minister appreciated the role of sports in engaging young people and steering them towards constructive activities.
He assured that the government would extend full support to encourage sporting initiatives and provide opportunities for emerging talent in the region.
During the event, SCC President Aman Cheema highlighted the club’s achievements, stating that it has participated in and won several tournaments. He said the club is contributing positively by involving youth in sports and helping them stay away from social issues such as drug abuse.
Earlier, the Chief Minister also launched a wildlife publication titled Checklist of Mammals of Jammu and Kashmir, India. A delegation of wildlife ecologists, led by Muzaffar Kichloo, briefed him on their ongoing and upcoming projects.
The Chief Minister commended their work and stressed the importance of scientific research and conservation efforts to protect the region’s biodiversity.
