During the visit, Abdullah took stock of the damage and interacted with shopkeepers who suffered substantial financial losses after the blaze reduced a major commercial stretch to rubble.

The fire broke out late Sunday night and continued for several hours, engulfing at least 40 shops and destroying property worth crores.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and Transport Minister Javed Ahmed Rana had also visited the affected traders separately last week to assess the situation and express solidarity with them.

Both ministers assured the shopkeepers that the government was aware of their difficulties and would stand by them during the challenging period.

They had also informed the affected traders that the district administration had forwarded the relief cases of all affected shopkeepers to the Chief Minister for consideration and approval of appropriate financial assistance.
