CM Omar Congratulates Two Jammu Kashmir Artisans on National Handloom Award

   

SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday congratulated artisan weavers Manzoor Ahmad Hajam and Fayaz Ahmad Wani on receiving the National Handloom Award for their joint entry, the Chand-Daar Kani Shawl.

Two master weavers from Kanihama, Budgam, receive the National Handloom Award from President Droupadi Murmu for their contribution

The award was presented to the two artisans by President Droupadi Murmu at a function held in New Delhi to mark National Handloom Day.

Abdullah said the recognition was a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship of the two artisans and highlighted the rich handloom heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chand-Daar Kani Shawl, presented as their joint entry, was recognised at the national level for its craftsmanship and artistic excellence.

The Chief Minister said the Jammu and Kashmir Government remained committed to empowering local artisans, preserving traditional heritage and promoting indigenous crafts on national and international platforms.

He said the honour would further highlight Jammu and Kashmir’s longstanding handloom traditions and the skills of artisans involved in preserving its traditional crafts.
