SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for Amarnath Yatra pilgrims injured in the road accident at Gund in Ganderbal district and deputed Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo to oversee their care at the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar..
The Chief Minister expressed concern over the accident, in which 39 pilgrims were injured while returning to Srinagar after performing the annual pilgrimage.
The mishap occurred earlier in the day when a bus carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims overturned near the S-Mode stretch at Hariganiwan in the Gund area of Ganderbal district.
The injured were rescued by police, security personnel and local residents before being shifted to hospitals for treatment.
According to an official statement, Omar Abdullah instructed the authorities to ensure that all injured pilgrims receive prompt and the best possible medical care. He also asked Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo to visit SKIMS and personally monitor the treatment of the injured.
The Chief Minister said the government was closely monitoring the condition of the injured pilgrims and would extend all necessary assistance to them.
