SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said he will raise the issue of the Shahpur Kandi dam project with his Punjab counterpart, emphasizing the commitments made under a 1979 agreement between the two states.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, CM Omar described the pact as a “sovereign commitment” and stressed that there is no question of either side reneging on it. He stated that he will personally remind and persuade the Punjab government to honor the agreement.
The 1979 pact governs the sharing of waters and other related aspects of the Shahpur Kandi dam project, highlighting the long-standing inter-state obligations that must be fulfilled.
