SRINAGAR: A viral political satire movement known as the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has accumulated more than 11.2 million followers on Instagram within days of its launch, placing it ahead of several established political parties in India in terms of social media reach.
As of May 21, the movement’s official Instagram handle @cockroachjantaparty has crossed the 11.2 million follower mark, according to platform figures cited on the same date. This is higher than the Bharatiya Janata Party’s official account @bjp4india, which has around 8.7 million followers, and the Aam Aadmi Party’s handle @aamaadmiparty, which has approximately 1.9 million followers. The Congress party’s official account @incindia currently has about 13.2 million followers.
The CJP, described as a youth-driven satirical political movement, emerged on 16 May and gained rapid traction across social media platforms. Its Instagram presence was created on May 17, following the initial circulation of the campaign on X a day earlier.
The movement’s profile bio describes it as “A political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth.”
Since its launch, the campaign has seen rapid online growth, positioning it among the most followed emerging political-satire accounts in the country.
