SRINAGAR: The Controlled Atmosphere Store (CAS) Store Association has granted a waiver of one month on rentals to the fruit growers given the current situation. This will help the growers reduce their losses given the fact that there is less appetite in the market for the consumption across India.

This was in response to a delegation of fruit growers and dealers association Shopian appealing the JKPICAA for support in view of the spoilage of apples due to the covid-19 lockdown.

The growers held a  meeting with President JKPICCA.  It was mutually agreed that rentals from March 20, 2020, to April 20, 2020 (One Month) shall be waived off.

The delegation asked the president JKPICCA for extending support in the manner of relaxation of rentals of the apple stored in the controlled Atmosphere Stores located in the Kashmir valley as the growers are incurring heavy losses due to the Covid -19 lockdown.

In a statement, President Majid Aslam Wafai said it is not only the fruit growers and dealers who suffered during this period, but the Cold Store Holders have equally suffered and incurred losses, and even as the government has not extended any support to this industry.
