SRINAGAR: The minimum temperatures throughout the valley remained several notches below the freezing point on Wednesday.

An official from Metrological department Kashmir has said a short spell of rain/snow is expected between December 26 and 27. Otherwise, the cold wave conditions are likely to continue till December 31.

Parts of the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar city have frozen which makes rowing of boats very difficult in such parts of the lake.

Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley where minimum temperature was minus 6.6 degrees.

Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K recorded minus 5.5 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

The night temperature in Gulmarg – the famous tourist resort settled at a low of minus 6.0 degrees while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu city recorded 7.5, Katra 7.2, Batote 2.5, Banihal minus 0.4 and Bhaderwah 0.2 as the minimum temperatures.
