SRINAGAR: The minimum temperatures across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh on Friday recorded a significant drop in various regions.
In the Kashmir region, Sonamarg recorded the lowest temperature at -12.5°C, followed by Gulmarg at -9.6°C and Pahalgam at -9.4°C. Srinagar, the summer capital, registered -2.0°C, while other notable readings included Qazigund at -1.4°C, Kupwara at -2.5°C, Kokernag at -1.8°C, and Baramulla at -1.3°C. Anantnag stood at -2.3°C, Pulwama at -3.0°C, and Ganderbal at -3.7°C. Kulgam and Shopian shared a temperature of -4.7°C, and Larnoo recorded -4.2°C.
In the Jammu region, the lowest temperature was recorded in Samba at -0.3°C, followed by Udhampur at 0.2°C and Rajouri at 0.9°C. Jammu city experienced its coldest night of the season at 4.5°C. Other significant temperatures included Banihal at 3.0°C, Batote at 1.8°C, Katra at 6.0°C, Bhaderwah at -3.0°C, and Padder at -7.2°C. Reasi and Kathua recorded 2.9°C and 3.3°C, respectively, while Poonch stood at 3.9°C and Ramban was relatively warmer at 10.0°C.
In Ladakh, Leh registered -12.4°C, closely followed by Kargil at -12.0°C. Temperature readings for Drass and Zojila were unavailable, though Zojila reportedly touched a freezing -23.0°C.
Light snowfall was observed in some plains during the early hours of Thursday, while higher reaches received a heavy spell of snow. Dry weather is expected from Friday onwards, likely persisting for the next week. (Kashmir Weather)
