SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police RR Swain on Sunday said anyone coming to pick up the drone-dropped weapons, narcotics, and money will be considered the biggest enemy of the nation and will be booked for treason, media reports said.

Speaking to media persons in Samba, the Chief of JK Police emphasised that individuals arrested on these grounds will face severe consequences in accordance with the law. “We view anyone attempting to acquire weapons, ammunition, explosives, narcotics, or money as a grave threat to our country. Those accused will be charged with the highest level of treason and terrorism,” Swain stated.

He added that the security along the border areas is tight but attempts are being made from across the border to disrupt peace in the Union Territory.

Swain pointed out the recent instances of tunnels being dug to transport militants and weapons, and the emerging challenge posed by drones. He emphasized the need for strategic planning to effectively counter these challenges.

Referring to a meeting in the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Director General of Police (DGP) revealed that it was conveyed at the highest level of authority that unconventional methods are required to detect drone movements, as conventional air defense systems are ineffective due to the advanced technology of these devices.

When questioned about the increasing militant activities in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region, Swain cautioned against making sweeping statements that may not accurately reflect the ground reality.

DGP Swain emphasized the need for relentless efforts curb miliotancy and called for thorough investigations and the seizure of criminal assets.
