SRINAGAR: The price of a 19-kg commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder has gone up by Rs 10 from Sunday, taking the revised price to Rs 2,820, according to reports.
The cylinder was priced at Rs 2,810 on October 1. The latest increase adds to the expenses of hotels, restaurants, eateries and other commercial establishments during the festive season.
According to the revised rate list, a 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder for a new connection costs Rs 1,903, while a refill is priced at Rs 782.
This is the third consecutive monthly increase in commercial LPG prices. The rates were revised upwards on September 1 and October 1 as well, with the 19-kg cylinder in Delhi becoming costlier by Rs 9.50 and Rs 62.50, respectively.
Commercial LPG prices have witnessed considerable fluctuations this year. Oil marketing companies reduced the price by Rs 183.50 in July and a further Rs 192 in August, offering some relief to commercial consumers. These reductions followed a sharp rise in the first half of the year, when the price in Delhi crossed Rs 3,000 per cylinder.
The Economic Times and The Tribune reported that the latest revision has taken the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder in Delhi to Rs 2,820.
The price increase comes amid volatility in international energy markets and concerns over possible disruptions to shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, an important route for energy supplies from Gulf countries.
India depends substantially on imported LPG, making domestic commercial prices sensitive to international benchmark rates and transportation costs. Higher import expenses and shipping charges have added to the pressure on fuel prices.
The latest revision applies to commercial LPG cylinders, while no change in domestic LPG cylinder prices has been reported.
