SRINAGAR: CPI(M) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami on Saturday called on authorities to ensure that the health of incarcerated former legislator Er Rashid does not worsen after he was reportedly shifted to a hospital following his hunger strike.
Tarigami emphasised that Er Rashid, as a public representative holding a parliamentary constituency, must be treated fairly and granted a just trial. “Until the court reaches a conclusion on his bail plea, we urge the authorities to ensure he receives proper medical care. We are deeply concerned about his health after being shifted to the hospital,” he said.
He further stressed that every undertrial is entitled to legal rights, including a fair trial and due consideration of bail. Tarigami reiterated that no jailed individual should be denied the right to be heard and that justice should not be delayed.
Expressing broader concerns, the CPI(M) leader highlighted the deteriorating health conditions of other Kashmiri detainees, citing concerns raised by their families. He urged the authorities to ensure their well-being and provide necessary medical care.
