Department of Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery  (CVTS) ,and Cardiac Anesthesia SKIMS operated a very complex congenital cyanotic heart disease ( Terology of Fallot) patient on November 28, 2013.

The patient identified as Bhat Mehmooda 25 years of age  from Bijbehara, used to oxygenate only 71 percent of blood because of multiple defects in the heart viz a large hole between two chambers of heart, mal-positioning of great arteries of heart, stenosed pulmonary valve and obstructed right ventricle.

Professor Abdul Majid Dar CVTS, who led the surgical team  informed that a  total correction of this complex congenital heart defect was performed by a team of doctors which included Dr Shyam Singh, Addl Prof CVTS , Dr Zubair, Assistant Professor CVTS, Dr Nasir, Registrar CVTS, Dr Aamir, Addl Professor Cardiac Anesthesia, Dr Asif, Registrar Cardiac Anesthesia.

The others who supported the team included sister Sharifa incharge CVTS OT perfusionists Lateef Ahmad Kurpal and Firdous Ahmad.  He further added, “This was the first case of such complexity operated at this age and is corrected fully and patient is doing well.”

Prof Majid further said, “The patient is now in Cardiac ICU, breathing without support, fully active and conscious with an Oxygen saturation of 98 percent on room air and will be shifted to ward soon.”

Prof Showkat Ali Zargar, Director SKIMS & EOSG has congratulated the team and other doctors of the CVTS department including Prof G N Lone, HOD CVTS and Prof M Akbar Bhat, CVTS for performing the complex surgery.
