SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq on Thursday condemned the reported attempt on the life of National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, calling the incident concerning and urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
In a post on social media, Mirwaiz said he was relieved that Abdullah escaped unhurt but expressed alarm that an individual carrying a loaded weapon was able to get so close to the veteran leader and open fire.
News about the attempt on Dr Farooq Abdullah Sahibs life at a function in Jammu is concerning and condemnable. Relieved to know that he escaped unhurt. That someone with a loaded weapon got so close and fired at him, needs to be thoroughly probed.

He said the circumstances surrounding the incident must be thoroughly probed.
The reaction came a day after Abdullah, a former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and national conference President, narrowly escaped an alleged assassination attempt during a wedding function in the Greater Kailash area on the outskirts of Jammu on Wednesday night.
According to reports, a man fired shots during the function, triggering panic before being overpowered and taken into custody. Authorities are investigating the incident.
