Stating that Article 370 will always remain an integral part of Indian Constitution, Sate Congress President Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz Thursday said that his party was duty bound to safeguard the interests of the state that were guaranteed under Article 370.

He claimed that Congress alone can serve the interests of the people of the state.

“Congress was duty-bound to safeguard the internal autonomy of the people of the J&K as enshrined in the Constitution of India in the form of Article 370 of the Constitution of India,” Soz said while addressing workers convention in central Kashmir district of Budgam.

He emphasized that Article 370 will always remain as an integral part of the Constitution of India.

According to a local news agency, KNS, Prof Soz said that the people who want enlargement of the Autonomy must understand that a discussion on such a proposition is possible and the “Congress has remained in the fore-front in ensuring such a dialogue and discussion.”

Soz said that the J&K PCC was dead-set on ensuring empowerment of sarpanchs and panchs by incorporating the provisions of the 73rd Amendment of the Constitution of India in to the Panchayat Act of the State.

He assured the gathering that J&K PCC will, under no circumstances, compromise its position on this proposition.

The JKPCC chief declared that he was fully satisfied that the people of J&K State have come to realize that the Congress would ensure strengthening of the democratic  process at the grass roots, so that peoples’ participation in developmental programmes become a reality.

Prof Soz appealed workers to strengthen the Congress as this party according to him alone will serve the best interests of the people.

The one day convention was also attended and addressed by Gulam Nabi Monga MLC, Vice President, Khem Lata Wakhloo, G N Mir Lasjan General Secretaries, Zahid Hussain Jan District President, Master Mohammad Maqbool Working President Budgam, Farooq Andrabi, Nazir Ahmad Khan, Agha Syed Mosvi and others.
