SRINAGAR: Congress’s central election committee on Monday finalised the list of 23 candidates for the 2nd and 3rd phases of the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
After a four-hour-long meeting in New Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra told reporters, that discussions were held in detail on the 29 seats going to the polls in these phases.
“We were asked to provide more details about one of the seats in the 2nd phase and about five seats in the 3rd phase,” Karra said.
He added that the list of 23 finalised seats includes 5 for the 2nd phase and 18 for the 3rd phase. Details for one of the seats in the 2nd phase, which the Central Election Committee (CEC) had sought, will be shared by this evening.
Karra also mentioned that the list of candidates for the 2nd phase will be announced soon.
He noted that the CEC will receive further details about the five seats in the 3rd phase through the president’s office due to ongoing engagements.
Congress has entered into a pre-poll alliance with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir. The NC will contest 51 seats, while Congress will fight for 32 seats. There will be a friendly contest in five seats, and one seat each has been allocated to the CPI (M) and the Panthers Party. (KNO)
