Alleging that government of India was diverting the attention of people of India by hanging Afzal Guru,  People Democratic Party Chief Mehbooba Mufti said with this move by the government of India has created more trust deficit between India and people of Kashmir.

“Congress has hanged Afzal Guru to divert attention from issues like miss governance corruption and crime.” She said.

“There is a martial law like situation in Kashmir today. People have been forced to sit inside because of the curfew imposed by the government and this has further alienated people of Kashmir.” She further said.

She also appealed to the people to India to show “mercy” on Kashmir by returning the body of Afzal Guru. “The family of Afzal Guru has every right to perform his last rites.”

When asked about the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah questioning the hush-hush business at the gallows. She said it clearly shows that gap and the trsut deficit between Delhi and the Chief Minister.

Clearly unhappy with the procedure followed before and after the execution, Omar Abdullah while talking to a news channel in Srinagar, said, “I wish we were the ones authorised to give the news to the family.”
