Doda

In an unprecedented move, Congress legislatures of the Chenab Valley boycotted the function for foundation stone laying ceremony of Medical College at Gath Doda to protest “intentional delay and revengeful attitude” of the BJP-PDP government.

The legislators who boycotted including Ghulam Mohammad Saroori MLA, Naresh Kumar Gupta MLC, Sham Lal Baghat MLC, other former legislators including Mohd Sharief Niaz, Abdul Majid Wani and Ashok Kumar have expressed their displeasure with regard to the “discriminatory attitude” of the government with Doda district.

The function was held on Saturday which was attended by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti along with Union Health Minister JP Nada.

The legislatures alleged that Construction of Medical College at Gath Doda was sanctioned in the year 2014, by Ghulam Nabi Azad, the then Union Health Minister, during the UPA II government along with other four Medical Colleges to be established in the Jammu and Kashmir.

They said that at the time of sanctioning, the entire amount required for construction too was approved. “But due to change of guards, the construction of other colleges was started while as Doda Medical College was intentionally ignored. Had the construction of this Medical College started along with others, it would have been functional now,”they claimed.

“The entire Chenab Valley is facing hardship because of the discriminatory attitude of the present dispensation. No new project have been brought during these three years by this government, only foundation stone ceremonies, inauguration functions of the works/projects sanctioned /constructed during Congress UPA 1st and 2nd are being done and credit is being claimed ,” alleged Congress legislators.

They have also alleged that the government resorted to “hallow sloganeering” only when it came to the development of the Chenab Valley. “The social fabric of the country is at stake. The situation has completely been communalised in the country due to irresponsible statements by these BJP’s so-called nationalist leaders,” they alleged.

“Everywhere there is hue and cry, but government, instead of resolving the basic problems of people, is only transferring people. Govt is invisible on ground,” said congress legislators.
