SRINAGAR: Congress workers staged a protest in Srinagar on Tuesday, raising slogans in support of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi following his detention by Delhi Police during an opposition demonstration in the national capital.
The protest, led by Youth Congress leaders at Press Colony in Srinagar, was organised against the BJP-led Central Government. During the demonstration, District Youth Congress President Srinagar, Yasir Mandoo, was detained by the Jammu and Kashmir Police while leading the protest, party leaders said.
The Srinagar protest followed the detention of Rahul Gandhi by Delhi Police earlier in the day during a high-profile opposition demonstration outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi.
Gandhi was joined by senior INDIA bloc leaders, including Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, in a sit-in protest demanding accountability over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.
The opposition leaders called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and criticised recent police action against students protesting over the examination controversy.
