The protesters also demanded extending the Minimum Wages Act so that they get paid minimum wages.

Shouting slogans, the protesters working as sweepers, watchmen, and cooks in government schools appealed to the Lieutenant Governor and Education Department seeking “justice”.

“Even in the recently held District Development Council (DDC) elections, we worked as diligently as everyone else. Then why are not we treated equally,” said CPW Union State Secretary Mohammad Shafi Reshi.

Speaking to media persons, Reshi said, “If our demands are not met by the coming Monday, we would come to the streets with our families and hold an indefinite hunger strike until our demands are met for which the DSEK would be solely responsible.”

CPW Union Organizer Shiraz Ahmad, “We also appeal to the authorities that those employees who have given land for schools should be brought under the ambit of SRO-520.”
