Forces on Monday called off a search operation in Sangran village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district as the militants managed to escape from their cordon.

Reports reaching here said that the cordon and search operation, which started in the early morning after exchange of fire between militants and forces as militants managed to escape at Sangran village of Imam Sahab area of Shopian.

Clashes erupted in the area soon after army’s 34RR, CRPF and SOG launched a cordon and search operation in the village. Scores of people took to streets and pelted stones at the forces to help militants escape, reports said.

Meanwhile, internet service has been restored in the district after remaining suspended for few hours.
