Srinagar: A pregnant woman from Kharpora village of Kokernag who died after delivering dead twins tested positive for coronavirus, taking J&K’s tally to 7.

“The pregnant woman with a twin pregnancy who died in Anantnag Maternity Hospital yesterday has tested COVID -19 positive,” Dr Mohammad Salim Khan, the spokesman for the GMC’s Allied Hospitals said.

The deceased lady was identified as Ruqaya, wife of Javed Ahmad (35) from Kharpora village of Kokernag.

As of now, J&K has reported 523 cases, out of which 466 were in Kashmir and 57 in Jammu. Seven have died, while 137 recovered. More than 66977 people have been kept under surveillance.

The death of the lady on Saturday and triggered sort of a crisis as the family had alleged unfair treatment. This led authorities to announce a probe into the handling of the lady at the maternity hospital in Anantnag. The family alleged that since she belonged to a red zone, the medical staff was reluctant in treating her as a result of which she died.
