A complete lockdown is being observed in Kashmir for the 40th  consecutive day on Monday to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

The markets across all districts of Kashmir valley remained closed and roads also remained blocked with concertina wires and manned by the police.

Educational institutions across Kashmir are closed, while all public places, including gymnasiums, parks, clubs and restaurants, were shut down more than a week before the nationwide lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The lockdown began on Thursday, March 19, a day after the first case tested positive in Srinagar. Only the people associated with essential services were allowed to move after checking their identity cards. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended the lockdown till May 3.

As of now, J&K has reported 523 cases, out of which 466 were in Kashmir and 57 in Jammu. Seven have died, while 137 recovered. More than 66977 people have been kept under surveillance.
