SRINAGAR: In order to mitigate the crisis emerging out of the current pandemic, the district administration Srinagar has decided to distribute free ration to selected strata of society from Saturday.

According to the official sources, the segments to be covered under the free ration scheme would include Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration card holders and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration cardholders.

The process to deliver the food grains has been divided into three phases to be spread over the span of 10 days for the district.

Starting from Saturday, the first phase would see delivery to 10 zones where each soul would be given 5 kg for the month of April. Later the officials said, the process would be repeated for the months of May and June.

In the subsequent two phases, 12 zones and 10 zones would be catered. The entire process has been devised based on the home delivery mechanism.

The total persons to be covered in the process are 587078, which includes 39278  under AAY and 547800  under BPL. The ration card holders in these in these segments are 8529 for AAY and 13175 for BPL, taking total to 140254.  The ration specified for free distribution is 29353 quintals.

While talking to Kashmir Life, Syed Sajjad Qadri, Officer on Special Duty in DC office Srinagar, confirmed the development and reiterated the commitment of district administration to reach out and provide every possible assistance “Administration is doing whatever is possible.  It is our responsibility to address concerns of our people,” he said and added, “we are firm to provide every possible assistance at the doorstep.”

Urging people to report complaints, if any,  Qadri said a dedicated helpline has been put in place to ensure all the facilities reach the beneficiaries.

Besides issues related to ration, people, he said can call on help-line no 6006333308 for assistance including Ambulance services.
