“The testing facility is up and operational,” Dr Farooq Ahmad Jan, the SKIMS Medical Superintend said. “The two tests we carried out last night were two individuals with travel history to Malaysia and South Korea. Fortunately, both the tests proved negative.”

Dr Jan said that the test takes usually eight hours. “Only in case the test is positive, do the guidelines require to have a second opinion,” he said.

“Today we have taken samples from another person who has travel history of Iran. Its results will be known late tonight,” Dr Jan said.

So far, in Kashmir, there is not a single test that has has been positive. “Right now, we have six patients admitted in our quarantine facility and they all are all right.” Dr Jan said. “People can fight it better by not panicking.”

Authorities sanctioned three testing facilities across Jammu and Kashmir, one each at the GMC in Jammu and Srinagar and one at SKIMS. Of them, two facilities were upgraded already to manage HINI. They were level-3 biosafety labs and now they have been upgraded.
