Authorities at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Shalimar and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora have ordered the closures of the varsities as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus disease.

According to circular issued by Sher-e-Kasmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, in view of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), scare and advisories issued by various Government agencies all administrative and academic activities across campuses of University shall remain suspended till March 31, 2020.

“However, employees associated with essential services including Electricity, Water Works, Sanitation and Hygiene, landscape maintenance, Health Care and Proctorial/ Watch/Wing shall continue to report to their respective duties,” the circular reads.

“In view of the closure of Financial Year 2019-20 the employees associated with the accounts/finance wing including the office of the Deans, Directors, Registrar, ADR’s and PC’s of KVk’s of the university shall also continue to report to their duties,” it said.

“All the examinations and interviews scheduled up to 31-03-2020 are postponed. New dates shall be notified separately. All examinations and M.Sc/PhD viva voce examinations scheduled till March 31, 2020, are also postponed and no outside expert be invited to University up to March 31, 2020,” it added.

“All officers of the University/All Heads of Divisions/ Regional Research Stations/ Faculties/ Colleges/ Centers/ Institutes/ KVKs’ of SKUAST-K shall ensure sanitation of their respective units immediately,” reads the circular.

The circular said that medical Officer of SKUAST-k, Shalimar who is designated as Chief Nodal Officer (COVID-19) shall extend all kind of knowledge/ advisory issued by the government for prevention of COVID-19 and shall coordinate with all the concerned units through Sub Nodal officers who will maintain close contact 24*7 with concerned units of the university.

“Professor in charge University vehicle pool shall keep one University ambulance from Shalimar campus at the disposal of Chief Nodal Officer 24*7 to meet any exigency. All employees, however, shall ensure that they are accessible through their mobile phones and shall provide home inputs/ report to their duties as and when called for,” reads the circular.

Meanwhile, the Authorities at Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora, Kashmir said in view of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) advisories issued by various Government agencies, all administrative and academic activities of University including Polytechnic College and Nursing Colleges shall remain suspended up to  March 29, 2020. However, employees associated with essential services including works, watch & ward wing shall discharge their duties as per requirement.

“All employees, however, shall ensure that they are accessible through their mobile phones and shall report to their duties as and when required,” reads an order issued by registrar IUST.
