SRINAGAR: People spotted a floating dead body in the dam of NHPC’s Uri-II power project on Sunday morning. It triggered a sort of a crisis and panic inviting the staff and the police to the spot.

It took a bit of time for the officials to get the body out of the dam. It was later identified as that of Haji Abdul Sattar Ahanger, a resident of Noorkhah in Boniyar belt.

Initial reports said Anhager had gone missing a few days of ahead of Eid and the family had informed the police also. He had actually gone missing on June 4, morning. He was a nonagenarian.

SDPO Uri, Merjauddin said that Haji was missing for last 10 days and was being searched by family and police. There is already a report with the police, he said.

The NHPC owned Uri power project has two phases. Both the phases use the same water but the two have separate storage systems. The phase-II project is located in Slamabad, not far away from the Line of Control.
